Growth, Creativity, and Collaboration: My Internship Experience at CUNY TV
When I began my internship at Nueva York, I had a clear objective: to hone my creative abilities and gain hands-on experience in storytelling through digital media. What I didn’t expect was the transformative journey this role would take me on, filled with lessons in adaptability, leadership, and collaboration.
Responsibilities and Projects As part of my role, I wore many hats: revamping Nueva York's social media presence, producing engaging animations, and editing reels. Each project presented a unique challenge. Whether it was crafting culturally rich content for Latinas or curating narratives about immigrant stories, my role required both creativity and structure. Notably, my contributions helped improve engagement metrics significantly, with reel shares tripling during my time there.
One of the highlights of my work was the freedom I had to build projects from scratch. Diana Vargas, my supervisor, encouraged fresh ideas, making the process as enriching as it was demanding. It wasn’t just about executing tasks but about shaping narratives that resonate.
Key Lessons This internship taught me that adaptability is just as important as creativity. Balancing deadlines while tackling unexpected changes pushed me to remain flexible and efficient. I also learned that leadership isn’t about dictating—it’s about bringing people together. Working closely with creative teams reminded me of the value of collaboration and diverse perspectives.
Reflections on the Impact What stood out the most during this experience was the opportunity to amplify Latin voices in NYC through meaningful content. From creating vibrant visuals for Día de los Muertos to producing engaging interviews with influential figures, my work reflected the vibrant stories of the Latin American community. It was humbling to see how digital storytelling can shine a spotlight on cultural heritage and social issues.
A Grateful Perspective Looking back, my time at Nueva York was more than an internship—it was a journey of self-growth and professional discovery. I’m grateful for the support of my supervisor and colleagues, who constantly encouraged me to bring fresh perspectives to the table. This experience solidified my passion for storytelling and left me eager to pursue new challenges in digital media.
